Poverty is a threat to peace - Mohammed Yunis, - Micro Loans and Nobel Laureate of Bangladesh
Our concerns for the well-being and education of Nimbaians/Liberians in the United States and Liberia led us to the formation of Nimba Development Institute, Inc. NDI is an organization of development-oriented Liberians whose aim is to work towards the improvement of their own lives and those of their fellow Liberians through Education, Research and Business.
The civil war in Liberia is over. The new battlefront is the marketplace. Weapons used at this economic warfront are not AK-47's nor RPG's but simple ideas. These ideas are formed around the concept of making money in one's own backyard through TRADE.
In order to have a peaceful society, its peoples must have the capacity to generate some type of income through legal and entrepreneurial means. NDI thinks education plays a role in achieving such goals. NDI therefore, will support local educational programs by donating materials, equipment, journals, and encouraging people to learn new self sustainable skills.
Poverty is a threat to peace according to Mohammed Yunis, the Bangladeshi Nobel Laureate, who introduced MICRO LOANS to reduce poverty in his country. Any steps taken to minimize human suffering lead to sustainable peace. With this in mind, NDI will utilize the expertise of its members and supporters to achieve its objectives.
In Nimba, our Research Committee will explore possible areas of development such as helping members to engage in small businesses. NDI will network with local and international firms to realize these ambitious objectives. Nimba Development Institute, Inc. was founded to serve as CLEARING HOUSE for such ideas that bring about prosperity through education, research, and small business.
Well-meaning Nimbaians, Liberians and friends of Liberia with good ideas and experiences who share these views are welcome. We are open to new ideas. Please join or support us in our strive to lay an unshakeable foundation for peace and progress in our community by clicking the appropriate links on our page.
Thank you.
